Man Gets 7.5 Years After Police Link Him to Cheyenne Drug Dealers

A 40-year-old Denver, Colorado man has been sentenced to 90 months in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Wyoming announced Wednesday.

Spokeswoman Lori Hogan says the case against Floyd Gilbert Vigil arose out of the prosecution of two Cheyenne drug dealers -- Troy Michael Painter and Peter James Hernandez.

Hogan says during those investigations, the Cheyenne Police Department, Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, and Drug Enforcement Administration obtained evidence linking Painter and Hernandez to Vigil.

"(Prosecutors) could not prove whether or not Painter and Hernandez were part of the drug ring or if they just happened to be users and bought more than they wanted/needed to sell it on the side," said Hogan.

In addition to the 90-month prison sentence, Vigil was also ordered to pay $500 in community restitution and a $100 special assessment.

Vigil will be subject to four years of supervised release once he is released from prison.
