A 64-year-old Cheyenne man is facing a slew of charges following an alleged DUI incident in which he hit a Laramie County Sheriff's deputy, injuring him.

Suspicious Vehicle Call Leads to Wild Chase

According to Sheriff's spokesman Brandon Warner, it all started around 6:40 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, after deputies were dispatched to a suspicious vehicle call in the 10000 block of East Four Mile Road.

Warner says deputies spotted the vehicle, a black Kia Soul, driving in the area of East Four Mile Road and Buckboard Road and attempted to stop it, but the driver, Calvin Orlando Alexander, continued driving at a slow rate of speed and deputies followed him on East Four Mile Road.

Warner says Alexander did several U-turns in the middle of the road, and deputies yelled at him to pull over as he drove past them.

Deputy Injured

Alexander then reportedly stopped, but when deputies got out of their vehicles to contact him, he accelerated and swerved into one of them, pinning the deputy to his vehicle and injuring him.

Stop Strips, Pepper Balls, and a Taser

Warner says Alexander continued driving in circles as additional deputies arrived, and stop strips were deployed, flattening tires on the Kia.

Alexander then reportedly rammed into a parked patrol vehicle.

Warner says as Alexander was again attempting to drive away, Sheriff Brian Kozak pinned the Kia with his patrol truck, but Alexander refused to get out of the Kia.

He says windows were broken out of the Kia and a police officer shot pepper balls into the Kia, and Alexander eventually got out of the Kia, but continued to resist and had to be tased.

Alexander Facing Multiple Felony Charges

Warner says Alexander was booked on charges of attempted aggravated vehicular homicide, interference, felony property destruction, DUI, and aggravated fleeing and eluding.

As of late Tuesday afternoon, he had yet to be formally charged.

Please remember that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
