Cheyenne Fire Rescue welcomed five new recruits to its ranks Monday morning.

Bryan Gill, James Lewis, Erik McGee, Benjamin Murphy and Kyle Pope were sworn-in during a short ceremony at the Cheyenne Public Safety Center.

"I'd like to thank our mayor, Marian Orr, for pushing for the expansion of the fire service here," said Chief Greg Hoggatt.  "Of the five, we have two from vacancies that have occurred over the last year and the expansion of three new ones."

Hoggatt says his department will be training the recruits over the next 10 to 12 weeks to make sure they're "ready to go" when they "get on that truck for that first call."

"It is our goal to make sure that you are ready, (to) give you the best equipment we can to protect you and give you leadership and guidance to make you safe so you can go home every day after your shift," said Hoggatt.
