Weed-Eating Goats Return To Cheyenne To Help Maintain Creek Bed
In what has become a sure sign of summer, about 300 goats have been deployed in areas around Crow Creek to help keep vegetation under control.
That's according to a news release from the City of Cheyenne.\
Goats At Work Near Ames Avenue Underpass
The release says the goats have been deployed along a section of Crow Creek near the Ames Avenue underpass. The herd is split into two groups, one of which is on the west side of the underpass and the other on the east side.
The goats can bee seen from the Greenway along Crow Creek. They are kept in place by a temporary electric fence.
Staff engineer Sam Berta with the City's Engineering Department says the goats help control vegetation and are more cost-effective than manual labor, heavy equipment or chemicals.
The goats have long been deployed along Crow Creek and Dry Creek in Cheyenne to keep the waterways safe and clear for good drainage.
According to the release, the goats will be here until June 26th. This year's goat contractor is Green Goat.
