Emergency Sirens To Sound On Friday In Cheyenne, Laramie
Residents of Cheyenne and Laramie should not be alarmed if they hear emergency sirens going off on Friday, September 5
Both Albany and Laramie counties are planning to test their emergency systems, with the Albany County test scheduled for 10 a.m. and the Laramie County test at 12 noon.
Albany County Test At 10 a.m.
Kate Allred is Albany County Coordinator for Homeland Security/Emergency Management. Her office has issued the following statement:
"Laramie/Albany County Records and Communications (LARC/Dispatch) & Albany County Emergency Management will test local emergency alert systems on the first Friday of each month at 10 AM. The outdoor warning sirens will sound; however, the Albany County Alerts will only be tested internally and will not go out to the public. To avoid confusion, these tests may be postponed if severe weather is in the area.
The primary purpose of the outdoor warning sirens is to alert the public of severe weather, such as tornado sightings or other life-threatening events. There are 6 siren locations within the City of Laramie and one in each of the towns of Rock River, Albany, and Centennial."
Similarly, Laramie County plans to test it's siren system at noon on Friday, Sept. 5th. You can see a map of the emergency sirens here.
