Case Background

According to Sheriff's spokesman Brandon Warner, it all started around 6:40 p.m. after dispatch received information from two parties who explained that a black or dark-colored Kia had been driving repeatedly by their location near East Four Mile Road and Buckboard Road, performing multiple U-turns, and stopping whenever another vehicle passed nearby.

Warner says deputies were dispatched to the location and arrived to find the Kia stopped in the middle of East Four Mile Road, but when they flipped on their lights and sirens, the driver, Calvin Orlando Alexander, 64, of Cheyenne, started driving at a slow rate of speed, doing several U-turns in the middle of the road.

Warner says deputies yelled at Alexander to pull over as he drove past them and he eventually stopped, but when they got out of their vehicles to contact him, he accelerated and swerved into one of them, pinning the deputy to his vehicle and injuring him.

Warner says Alexander continued driving in circles as additional deputies arrived, and stop strips were deployed, flattening tires on the Kia.

Alexander then reportedly rammed into a parked patrol vehicle.

Warner says as Alexander was again attempting to drive away, Sheriff Brian Kozak pinned the Kia with his patrol truck, but Alexander refused to get out of the Kia.

He says windows were broken out of the Kia and a police officer shot pepper balls into the Kia, and Alexander eventually got out of the Kia, but continued to resist and had to be tased.
