The Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service is forecasting an unsettled weekend ahead, with heavy rain and flooding possible on Sunday.

The agency posted this statement on its website on Friday:

''Here's what we're looking for in the weather forecast for southeast Wyoming and Nebraska Panhandle into next week. Monsoonal moisture remains in place for afternoon/evening showers and thunderstorms through Sunday. Need to be watching Sunday. There are some indications we could see heavy rainfall east of the Laramie Range into the Nebraska Panhandle Sunday afternoon and evening. Could be looking at some flash flooding for this area, particularly the southern Panhandle. Forecast turns much drier after Sunday as monsoonal moisture shifts east. Areas west of the Laramie Range likely to see very dry humidity, down near 10 percent during the afternoon and early evening. This dry air will combine with gusty west winds up to 30-35mph during the afternoon hours to create critical fire weather conditions across Carbon and Albany Counties, possibly as far east as Wheatland and Cheyenne. These dry conditions and breezy winds look to continue into next weekend."
