Laramie County Emergency Management Issues Road Closure Alert

Laramie County Emergency Management issued the following on Friday morning

Recent heavy rainfall and flooding in portions of eastern Laramie County have caused damage to several county roads and created potentially hazardous travel conditions.
The Laramie County Public Works Department is actively assessing impacted roadways and working to make necessary repairs. Due to the extent of flooding and road damage, Public Works has determined that some roads must be temporarily closed to all traffic to protect the traveling public and allow crews to safely and efficiently complete repairs.

ROAD CLOSURES
The following roads are currently closed due to flooding, washouts, or associated damage:
•Road 154 from Road 212 to Road 219
•Road 154 from Road 220 to Road 225

Additional roads may be closed as conditions are evaluated. Please detour as appropriate given your destination. We anticipate closures to last until early next week.
Motorists are asked to avoid flooded and damaged roadways and respect all posted road closures and barricades. Do not drive around barricades or attempt to cross roads covered by water. Flooding can undermine or wash away portions of a roadway that may not be visible from the surface.

Closing these roads will also allow Public Works crews to focus their efforts on repairs without having to work around traffic, helping roads reopen as safely and quickly as conditions allow.
Residents in the affected areas should anticipate possible travel delays and use alternate routes when available. Please use caution when traveling throughout eastern Laramie County, as conditions may change quickly following additional rainfall.

Laramie County Public Works will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as information becomes available.

Please do not enter closed or flooded roadways. Turn around, don’t drown.

The Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service is forecasting heavy rain with potential flooding through the weekend.

A flood watch has been issued for parts of Laramie County starting at 2 p.m.
