Some hikers who had gone five miles into the backcountry of Vedauwoo Recreation Area without the proper equipment were recently rescued without injury by sheriff's deputies.

That's according to a post on the Albany County Sheriff's Office Facebook page

According to the post, the rugged terrain forced deputies to use four-wheelers to access the hikers.

"This incident serves as an important reminder to anyone recreating in Albany County: always be prepared before heading into the outdoors. Carrying a GPS device or other reliable navigation tool can make a critical difference, especially in areas where cell service is limited or nonexistent.

Additionally, visitors should plan for rapidly changing weather conditions. As Wyoming locals know all too well, you can experience all four seasons in a single afternoon. What starts as a sunny hike can quickly turn into a cold, windy, and even snowy situation. Bringing extra layers, including warm clothing, is essential essential.....yes, even if it feels like summer when you leave the trailhead.''
The post says Albany County Dispatch partners were able to ping the lost hikers, giving deputies a much better Idea of where to look.
