Bond Set at $5K Cash for Cheyenne Man Accused of Strangulation

A Laramie County Circuit Court judge on Tuesday set bond at $5,000 cash for a 44-year-old Cheyenne man accused of strangling a household member.

According to a booking sheet, police were executing a warrant at 2610 Dillon Ave. around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9, when Timothy James Burney walked out of the apartment's back door.

Burney was contacted by law enforcement, placed into handcuffs, and searched, and reportedly found to have suspected methamphetamine and a glass pipe with suspected methamphetamine residue on him.

Burney Arrested on Warrant

Police say dispatch confirmed that Burney had an active Laramie County warrant for strangulation of a household member, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and misdemeanor domestic battery.

Circuit Court Judge Antoinette Williams signed the warrant on Sept. 3, 2024.

Burney was taken to the Laramie County Detention Center, where he was booked without incident, and was seen on the two charges the following morning.

Burney is scheduled to return to Circuit Court for his preliminary hearing on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 3:30 p.m.
