A Dozen Teens May Face Charges For Brawl At Cheyenne Central Football Game
UPDATE: In response to a question about whether all 12 teens came from the same school, CPD spokeswoman Alex Farkas gave us the following statement:
"The 12 teens are not all from the same school. While a specific group instigated the disturbance, additional teens became involved."
Original Post: Cheyenne Police say 12 teenagers, ranging in age from 13 to 17, potentially face charges in connection with a violent confrontation with police officers at a Cheyenne Central Football game on Sept. 11.
CPD spokeswoman Alex Farkas says during the game between Central and Casper Kelly-Walsh High School, teens from another high school tried to pick fights with students in the stands. Social media posts indicated the outsiders were trying to ''rage-bait' Central students at the game.
Cheyenne Police Officers and Central staff members tried to get the agitators to stop provoking trouble, but Farkas says they wouldn't stop the disruptive behavior.
Things Only Went Downhill From There
Finally, police asked the troublemakers to leave, but things got worse from there. Not only did they refuse to leave, but many of them grabbed, punched, and spit at police officers.
Several of the outside students were detained by police before being released to their parents.
Police investigated the incident later using body camera footage and speaking to those involved. The investigation led to probable cause affidavits to the Laramie County District Attorney's Office. Charges range from assaulting a peace officer and battery to trespassing, interference, and breach of peace.
Since the incident, Cheyenne Police have increased their presence at Central Athletic events. School District#1 has also announced steps to deter such events in the future.
