A spokesman for the Cheyenne Police Department says that while car burglaries can happen  anywhere in the city at any time, a few simple steps will help make your vehicle less of a target.

Officer Dan Long says the department gets reports of car burglaries not only at night in residential areas, but also in mall parking areas and outside businesses and during the day as well as at night.. But Long says simply locking your vehicle and keeping the windows rolled up when you leave it will deter many car burglars.

Long also says you shouldn't leave money or valuables sitting out in plain sight in your car. He advises parking your vehicle in a garage if you have one. If that isn't possible he says parking in a well lit, visible area is the next best option.

Police earlier this week arrested a suspect in a series of car burglaries, and Long says such thefts are a year-round problem in the city
