Cheyenne Police Swear In 5 New Officers
The Cheyenne Police Department's new approach to recruiting is starting to pay off, as the agency has hired five new officers.
Shayne Andren and Samuel Johnson, both of Cheyenne, Ian Lohnes of Carbondale, Illinois, Kyle Mair of Denver, Colorado, and Jeremiah Smith of Logan, Utah, were sworn in Monday morning.
"The men joining the force have exceptional training and backgrounds that will serve the community well," said Cheyenne Mayor Marian Orr. "Today is a good day for the Cheyenne Police Department and the citizens of our community."
Orr, who pledged to put more officers on the street during her campaign, also commended Chief Brian Kozak for putting Sergeant David Janes solely in charge of recruitment and training.
The five new hires bring the total number of officers employed by the department to 104, but the agency is still looking to hire four more officers. The next round of testing will be conducted on April 25.
