Cheyenne Police K-9 Team Wins Two Major Awards
Sixteen police K-9 teams from across Wyoming were sniffing around Cheyenne last week as part of their annual certification through the Wyoming Police Service Dog Association.
Throughout the week, training was conducted in narcotics detection, patrol, evidence location, and tracking skills.
The K-9s were also tested on protecting their handlers from unexpected attacks.

Awards were presented to the top performers at the end of the certification, and Cheyenne Police Department K-9 Tyler and her handler Officer Lisa Koeppel won two major awards -- top-scoring overall K-9 team and top-scoring patrol K-9 team.
"We applaud all of our teams for their hard work," Cheyenne police said in a Facebook post.
The CPD's K-9 Unit is currently made up of four dual-purpose dogs, Dutch, Maverick, Pavel, and Tyler, and one scent-specific dog, Jano.
Because he's retiring on May 31, Jano didn't complete the annual certification.
