Cheyenne Fire Rescue was called to the 700 block of East Lincolnway early Saturday morning in a report of a structure fire at a multi-family residential structure.

Firefighters were called out at 1:09 a.m. and arrived at 1:12 to find smoke coming from the second story of the structure and the fire rapidly gaining in size, according to a release from Cheyenne Fire Rescue.

The release says the blaze generated a lot of fire and heat, posing challenges for firefighters. But firefighters were able to get inside the structure and knocked down the fire within 20 minutes or so, The scene was considered under control about a half an hour later. Firefighters stayed on the scene until 4:09 a.m.

No one was in the building when the fire broke out, and no other structures were damaged.

A damage estimate was not immediately available, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
