Cheyenne Police Officer, Laramie County Sheriff Deputies Recognized
A Cheyenne Police Officer and three Laramie County Sheriff's deputies have been recognized for their enforcement of the laws against impaired driving.
That's according to a news release from the Wyoming Department of Transportation. According to the release "Representatives from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and the Governor’s Council on Impaired Driving (GCID) announced the winner of the Governor's Inaugural DUI Top Cop Award Tuesday at the Ramkota Hotel and Conference Center in Casper."
The release says more than 50 people die in alcohol related crashes in Wyoming every year, and that the average BAC [blood alcohol content] for people arrested for impaired driving in Wyoming is almost twice the legal limit.
Wyoming is typically among the top states in impaired driving in the country.
Laramie County Law Enforcement Honorees
Several members of Laramie County law enforcement were honored with recognition pins at the event. They include:
- Officer Sean Cigich, Cheyenne Police Department [shown in photo]
- Sgt. George Martinez, Laramie County Sheriff’s Office
-- Deputy Griffon Budde, Laramie County Sheriff’s Office
-- Deputy Jonathan Bartlett, Laramie County Sheriff’s Office
Governor Mark Gordon commented at the event “Driving under the influence of either alcohol or drugs is a serious crime that can impact families and our communities. Not only does it endanger drivers and others on the road, but it also puts a strain on community resources and the legal system. DUIs are preventable, and I am proud of our law enforcement professionals who take on the charge of keeping our roads and communities safe and who recognize the signs of someone driving impaired.”
