A 32-year-old Cheyenne transient is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly committing back-to-back burglaries.

The Arrest

According to booking sheets, Shawn Kyle Monson was arrested at 6:45 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16, after he was contacted in possession of a blue mini bike in the parking lot of Town and Country Supermarket Liquors at 516 S. Greeley Hwy.

The arresting Laramie County Sheriff's deputy says Monson is criminally trespassed from the location.

Monson was booked into the Laramie County Detention Center for misdemeanor criminal trespass and burglary.

Felony Warrant

At 12:15 p.m. the following afternoon, Oct. 17, inmate Monson was served with a warrant for burglary and theft - fifth or subsequent offense signed by Laramie County Circuit Court Judge Antoinette Williams.

It's alleged that on Tuesday, Oct. 14, Monson committed a burglary at Town and Country Marketplace Liquors.

Initial Court Appearance

At 1:30 p.m. that same afternoon, Oct. 17, Monson was seen in Circuit Court in front of Judge Sean C. Chambers on the two cases, both charging him with burglary and theft - fifth or subsequent offense, felonies punishable by up to 10 years in prison, up to a $10,000 fine, or both.

"I'm so confused," said Monson. "I don't understand what they're saying here."

"They're saying that on Oct. 16th you committed a burglary and they're saying that ... if you're convicted of that burglary, it would be at least five thefts on your record," said Chambers.

"They are also saying that on Oct. 14th you committed burglary and also if your convicted of that theft associated with that, it would be fifth or subsequent theft," added Chambers. "You're charged with four felonies."

"Oh my God, bro ... I thought I was in here on trespassing charges," said Monson, who said he'd like a public defender.

Chambers appointed Monson a public defender and asked for the state's bond recommendation.

"The court is aware of his previous theft and burglary charges, which gives the state concern that he cannot comply with court orders because he clearly cannot follow the law and not steal things," the state said. "He has three probation violations, the most recent being in 2018, two contempts of court, the most recent being in 2024, multiple criminal entries, two fugitives from justice, it's also concerning from the state that he has charges from June of 2025 and August of 2025, those being criminal trespass, probation violations, and felony burglary."

"With these new charges and the trespassing and burglary, it shows that he has a complete inability to comply with court orders," the state added. "He also has a lack of ties with community and that gives the state concern for him to show up to later court dates, and the state would recommend a $10,000 cash bond."

Bond Set at $10K Cash

"I'm going to set a $10,000 cash only bond," Chambers told Monson. "Your two cases are set for preliminary hearings that will happen on Oct. 24 at 9:45 a.m."
