Laramie County launches Blue Envelope Program

The Laramie County Sheriff's Office has announced a new program designed to improve communication between first responders and people who may have communication challenges due to disabilities.

According to Sheriff's Office spokesman Brandon Warner, the Blue Envelope Program will allow participants to keep important information in a clearly identifiable blue envelope. In the words of a news release "The Blue Envelope serves as a communication tool that helps provide important information to responders, reducing misunderstandings and supporting safer, more positive outcomes during traffic stops, emergencies, and other public safety encounters."

What Is Included In the Envelopes?

According to the release:

Each complimentary Blue Envelope packet includes:

• An official Blue Envelope for vehicle storage

• A Participation Card for wallets or lanyards

• A custom Lanyard and Bracelet

• A Small Window Sticker to alert approaching personnel

• Ready-to-fill Informational Forms

The release quotes Sheriff Brian Kozak as saying "Our goal with the Blue Envelope Program is to empower individuals with disabilities by providing a simple communication tool that helps first responders better understand their needs, reducing misunderstandings and promoting safe, respectful interactions for everyone involved," said Sheriff Kozak"

Several communities in Colorado, including Denver, have implemented similar Blue Envelope programs.

The envelopes are available at the front desk of the Laramie County Sheriff's Office. The address is 1910 Pioneer Ave. In Cheyenne.
