Cheyenne Man Charged With Burglary, Property Destruction
A 32-year-old Cheyenne man is facing charges, including a felony charge, after allegedly burglarizing a vehicle.
According to a booking sheet, police arrested Shawn Kyle Monson at an apartment in the 1400 block of Hot Springs Avenue at 9 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 25.
Monson was booked into the Laramie County Detention Center and subsequently charged with burglary, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison, up to a $10,000 fine, or both, and misdemeanor property destruction.
Initial Court Appearance
On Wednesday, Aug. 27, Monson was seen in Laramie County Circuit Court in front of Judge Antoinette Williams on the charges.
Williams appointed Monson a public defender and asked for the state's position regarding bond.
An Extensive Criminal History
"Mr. Monson has an extensive history," the state said, citing thefts from 2013, 2021, 2023, two trespasses from 2021, failures to appear in 2021 and 2023, contempts of court in 2019, 2021, and 2024, and probation violations from 2013, 2015, 2018, 2023, and 2025. "(He) was also just released on an OR (own recognizance) bond last week I believe and almost immediately failed to comply with the conditions of that bond."
"All of that certainly gives the state concern for the safety of the community (and) extensive concern for Mr. Monson's ability and willingness to comply with court orders," the state added. "For those reasons, the state believes that a cash bond is appropriate and would request $3,000 cash."
Bond Set at $3K Cash
Williams adopted the state's recommendation.

Monson's next court date will be a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 3:45 p.m.
Please remember that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
