UPDATE: Cheyenne Mom Arrested After Throwing Baby Into Ditch
UPDATE:
A 31-year-old Cheyenne woman is behind bars after allegedly throwing her 2-month-old daughter into a ditch.
Cheyenne Police Department spokesman Officer Kevin Malatesta says officers were called to "suspicious circumstances" at Love's Travel Stop around 1:15 a.m. this (Saturday) morning.
"Officers contacted a woman, later identified as Lillian Jeffrey, in the driver's seat of a car," said Malatesta. "The windows were down and she was acting erratically."
Malatesta says officers noticed two car seats, but only one child was in the car -- a 4-year-old boy.
"Officers located a 2-month-old baby in a ditch a short distance from the car Jeffrey was in," said Malatesta. "The baby had severe injuries and was flown from Cheyenne Regional Medical Center to a hospital in Colorado for treatment."
Police have yet to determine how long the baby was exposed to the weather.
"Jeffrey was arrested for aggravated child abuse and child endangering," said Malatesta. "Officers suspect she may have been under the influence of narcotics at the time."
