Even as a smoker, it bothers me to see people light up in common areas where children are present.

Sure, you may be outdoors, and it's perfectly legal, but there are ways to get your nicotine fix without subjecting others to your second hand smoke. Simply put, it's a matter of common courtesy.

Which begs the question: should Cheyenne Frontier Days have designated smoking areas on the midway?

They already have smoking areas for spectators in the grandstands. There's certainly plenty of room at Frontier Park for several smoking areas, which would be easily accesible. You could even have a smoking section in the party zone.
