A 45-year-old Cheyenne man is facing a felony forgery charge after reportedly using movie prop money to buy fast food.

According to a booking sheet, Ricky James Dougherty was arrested at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 28, after police contacted him at the Sinclair Gas Station at 820 W. Lincolnway.

Fake $20 Bills

Police say Dougherty was a suspect in a previous forgery case, in which he and 33-year-old Cheyenne resident Ruthie Kathleen Lawson used a movie prop $20 bill to buy $8.56 worth of food from the Taco Bell at 2500 E. Lincolnway, then walked across the street to the McDonald's at 2535 E. Lincolnway and attempted to pay for their meal with two more movie prop $20 bills.

Police say these bills look almost identical to real bills except they say "For Motion Picture Use" on them.

Dougherty was Mirandized and reportedly admitted to the crime.

Police say Dougherty was also in possession of used needles with methamphetamine residue and a small plastic baggie with methamphetamine residue.

Dougherty Charged With Forgery, Meth Possession

Dougherty was booked into the Laramie County Detention Center and subsequently charged with felony forgery - utter, a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison, up to a $10,000 fine, or both.

He was also charged with misdemeanor possession of methamphetamine.

Total Bond Set at $6K Cash

Dougherty was seen in Laramie County Circuit Court on the forgery charge on Monday, March 31, and the possession charge on Wednesday, April 2.

His total bond was set at $6,000 cash — $5,000 cash in the felony case and $1,000 in the misdemeanor case — and his preliminary hearing and arraignment were scheduled for Wednesday, April 9, at 3:30 p.m.
