Rock Springs Man Arrested Following High Speed Chase
A 48-year-old Rock Springs man is being held on $45,000 bond after leading sheriff's deputies on a high-speed chase late Thursday, according to a spokesman for the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Department.
Dick Blust says a deputy spotted a tan Toyota Camry driving erratically a little before 11 p.m. in the Blairtown Road area. When the deputy tried to stop the vehicle, Blust says the Camry sped off at speeds of over 90 mph, turning south onto Little Bitter Creek Road.
After about 5 miles the Camry stopped, and the driver, 48-year-old Brian J. Allen of Rock Springs, jumped out and "began running into the desert." The Camry, meanwhile, moved on without a driver, rolling off an embankment and into a ravine. The deputy was eventually able to run Allen down and arrest him.
He is facing charges of DUI, reckless driving and eluding a police officer as well as turn signal and lane use violations. At last report, he remained in custody in the Sweetwater County jail.
