CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Laramie County prosecutors say jealousy may have been the motive in the weekend shooting death of a Cheyenne woman.

Court records say 26-year-old Daniel Guajardo faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of his former girlfriend, 26-year-old Jessica Spencer. Prosecutors also plan to charge him with attempted first-degree murder for shooting 24-year-old Sam Cook.

Prosecutors say Cook told police Guajardo came to their residence and started banging on the front door. When they didn't answer, Guajardo broke in. Cook says he escaped through a window, but was shot in the shoulder.

He says he was lying on the ground, faking death, when he heard another shot inside the house. Spencer's body was found inside.

Police spokesman Dan Long says Guajardo and Spencer have children together.

Guajardo was arrested in Fort Collins, Colorado, on Sunday evening.

 

Cheyenne Police were called to a home in the 1400 block of E. 23rd St Sunday at about 2:35 pm on a report of someone being shot.

When police got there a man was found near 1403 E. 23rd St that had been shot. They then found a woman inside the residence that had also been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center (CRMC) by ambulance.

Police decided the shooter was still at large. The dead woman is identified as 26 year-old Janessa Spencer of Cheyenne. The second shooting victim, identified as 24 year-old Samual Cook, also of Cheyenne, is still in the hospital.His current condition is unknown.

Cheyenne Police Detectives found and arrested the suspect, 26 year-old Daniel Guajardo, in Ft. Collins, Colorado. He is being held in Colorado pending extradition on murder charges. Police say Guajardo had once lived at the house,

The case remains under investigation by Cheyenne Police Detectives.
