LCCC Hosts Thunderbirds for Last Time, New Location Up in the Air
Today marks the 18th year Laramie County Community College has hosted the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and, sadly, the last.
LCCC spokesman Troy Rumpf says the Sweetgrass development south of the college has forced officials to find a new location for the air show.
"Unfortunately, the Thunderbirds and the Air Force are no longer able to fly over this area because of their own regulations as it relates to that kind of development in residential area," said Rumpf.
Cheyenne Frontier Days Military Chairman Col. Matt Dillow says they're still in the "early processes" of determining where to hold next year's performance.
"One of the options is to bring the air show back to F.E. Warren Air Force Base, but we're still working through some of those issues," said Col. Dillow.
"We've got a lot of logistical and security concerns to work through before we can make a final decision on that," he added.
