Heavy Rain, Flash Flooding Possible In Southeast Wyoming Friday

Up to 2 inches of rain from slow-moving storms is being forecast for areas of southeast Wyoming and the Nebraska Panhandle on Friday.

The possibility of heavy rainfall also raised the risk of flash flooding, similar to that which drenched areas of Rock Springs in southwest Wyoming this week.

The Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service issued this special Situation Report on Friday morning:

''Here are the current weather event impact highlights:

Flash Flood Watch in effect from 11 AM MDT today through midnight Saturday for portions of Albany and Carbon Counties
- This includes the Mullen Burn Scar with timing of significant concern between 2 PM and 6 PM MDT
Slow moving storms will be capable of producing of moderate to heavy rainfall along with gusty winds and frequent lightning
Timing of rainfall
- In southeast Wyoming, 1 PM to 11 PM MDT
- In the Nebraska Panhandle, 4 PM to 11 PM MDT""

The agency posted the following statement on its website:

Showers and thunderstorms will become more widespread Friday as monsoon moisture continues to push northeast across Wyoming. Timing of rainfall for southeastern Wyoming is from 1PM-11PM and for western Nebraska Panhandle 4PM to 11PM. There is a Flash Flooding Risk for areas across southeastern Wyoming for excessive rainfall. These areas could receive up to 2 inches due to slow moving storms. Please do not drive in flooded waters!
