Two Cheyenne sex offenders have been charged with felony failure to register as a sex offender following separate arrests by the Laramie County Sheriff's Office.
Investigation Leads to Cheyenne Sex Offender's Arrest
According to booking sheets, 38-year-old Fernando Lopez was arrested at 10:53 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, after a corporal met with him at the Sex Offender Registration Office in regards to a failure to register investigation.
The corporal says Lopez didn't update his address change on Sept. 15, 2024, in the three business days as required.
Trespass Call Leads to Cheyenne Sex Offender's Arrest
The second arrest came at 2:48 p.m. that afternoon after a deputy was called to Sapp Bros. about a trespass.
The deputy says the reporting party said there was a male and female squatting on their property.
The deputy arrived on the scene and contacted the male, 55-year-old Demetrius Hopson, who he says was in a minivan and appeared to be loading his belongings in the van.
Hopson reportedly told the deputy that he was evicted from T-Joe's and drove the van to its current location behind the Rodeway Inn.
The deputy says the van that Hopson was driving was not registered with the Laramie County Sex Offenders Office.
The deputy says a witness said that Hopson had been driving the van for weeks and the female he was with said Hopson purchased the van from her a few weeks prior.
According to the Wyoming Sex Offender Registry, Hopson was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child on Oct. 14, 2005, in Texas; and Lopez was convicted of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor on Feb. 28, 2013, in Wyoming.
The two made their initial appearances in Laramie County Circuit Court on Thursday, Sept. 26.
Each's bond was set at $1,000 at 25% and their preliminary hearings were scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 3 at 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
Please remember that all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
