The Assault

According to a booking sheet, deputies were dispatched to 2316 Seymour Ave. at 5:50 p.m. on Monday, May 13, to serve a protection order to Michael Eugene English, a wanted man.

When English reached out past the threshold of the door, one of the deputies reportedly grabbed his left wrist and informed him that he was under arrest.

English reportedly pulled his arm back and the deputy followed him into the house and pinned him against the wall in the living room area.

English then reportedly wrapped his arm around the deputy's neck and applied pressure, restricting the deputy's airway.

To keep from losing consciousness, the deputy reportedly lifted English off his feet, threw him on the ground, and struck him in the face with an open palm strike to break his hold.

English Had 2 Warrants

English was handcuffed and his information ran, which showed he had two warrants out of Laramie County Circuit Court.

The first was for felony strangulation of a household member and misdemeanor domestic battery and was signed by Judge Thomas Lee on May 2, 2024.

The second was for failure to appear on an original charge of misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and was signed by Judge Sean Chambers on April 18, 2024.

English Could Face Life

English was booked into the Laramie County Detention Center on his warrants and charged with felony interference with a peace officer - bodily injury, a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and felony habitual criminal, an enhancement that carries a life sentence.

English was seen in Circuit Court on the warrants and felony charges Tuesday morning.

His total bond was set at $40,000 cash and his next court date is May 23 at 1:30 p.m.

The deputy who was assaulted was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center for treatment and later released.
