Coloradans Charged After Cheyenne Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Bust
Two Coloradans are facing drug possession charges following a weekend traffic stop in Cheyenne.
According to a booking sheet, a Laramie County Sheriff's deputy stopped 33-year-old Firestone resident Gamaliel Beltran Garfio near milepost 8 on northbound Interstate 25 at 3:53 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14 for expired registration and doing 70 mph in a 65 mph zone.
While speaking with Beltran Garfio, the deputy says he observed the female passenger, identified as 40-year-old Longmont resident Kerry Ann Owens, attempting to hide a loaded syringe in the glove box in front of her.
The deputy says Owens told him that she had attempted to use it on the ride they were taking, but was unable to hit a vein.
The deputy says Owens also said she uses methamphetamines, and there was a butane torch and tinfoil on the floor near her feet and tinfoil in the door pocket.
Search Leads to Felony Amount of Meth, Fentanyl
When the deputy searched the vehicle, he reportedly found a small amount of suspected methamphetamine in the center console and more loaded syringes in Owens' purse and bag, which she said were hers.
More than three grams of methamphetamine and more than three grams of suspected fentanyl pills were also reportedly found in the trunk, which Owens said Beltran Garfio most likely brought to give to the person they were meeting in Nebraska.
Beltran Garfio and Owens were arrested without incident.
Coloradans Charged With Drug Possession
Beltran Garfio was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and fentanyl.
Owens was charged with misdemeanor possession of methamphetamine and a controlled substance in liquid form.
The two made their initial appearances in Laramie County Circuit Court on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
Beltran Garfio's bond was set at $10,000 cash and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for Sept. 24 at 2 p.m.
