A 45-year-old Cheyenne woman is behind bars after allegedly stealing guns from her ex-roommate.

According to a booking sheet, Karmen Valerie Shaw was arrested at Holiday Inn Express & Suites Cheyenne located at 1741 Fleischli Pkwy at 9 o'clock last night, Dec. 18, not quite two hours after police received a report of a burglary at 236 Bent Ave. in which Shaw was the suspect.

Police say Shaw had entered the home the day prior and took a Colt 1911 .45-caliber handgun in its case along with four loaded magazines and a Ruger Security Special .357-caliber loaded with six rounds.

Police say the guns belonged to an ex-roommate who didn't give Shaw permission to take them nor enter his home.

Police say Shaw admitted to taking the guns and said they were in her rented room at her home at 609 E. Prosser Ave., which she was currently locked out of.

Shaw was booked into the Laramie County Detention Center on a single count of aggravated burglary, a felony punishable by 5 to 25 years in prison, a fine of up to $50,000, or both.

Shaw is scheduled to make her initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court tomorrow, Dec. 20, at 10:15 a.m.
