Work on next fiscal year's budget has officially started, and Cheyenne Mayor Patrick Collins says the "great news" is that revenues are "much better than last year."

"We are still millions of dollars short of the budget requests made by our departments and outside agencies, but last year, our beginning revenues did not even cover the existing cost of running the city," Collins said Friday in his Mayor's Minute column.

Collins says this means that fortunately, the city won't have to make any "significant cuts."

But he says, "The bad news is there is no money for new requests."
