While Cheyenne itself probably won't get much more than a couple of inches of snow, weather forecasters say other parts of southeast Wyoming and the Nebraska Panhandle should expect to feel old man winter's wrath going into the weekend.

The Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service issued this statement on its website on Friday morning:

''Widespread precipitation for southeast Wyoming and the western Nebraska Panhandle today. In most locations, precipitation will begin as rain and change over quickly to snow over the course of the morning; this doesn’t include the mountains where snow will fall upon onset. 2 to 5 inches of snow is expected across most locations with 6 to 10 inches expected in the Sierra Madre and Snowy Mountains. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued beginning this morning and continuing through midnight tonight in all areas purple (as seen in the graphic). A concern for central Laramie County is the potential for freezing drizzle before 9 AM, so be careful if driving this morning in that area. Visibilities will be effected wherever there is snow, but especially between Cheyenne and the I-80 Summit where a dense Fog Advisory is currently in effect through 9 AM. To top it off, there is still flooding concerns in Dawes County where an Areal Flood Advisory remains in place. Higher than usual river and stream flows are still ongoing thanks to snowmelt and run off from the recent storms. If driving today, please leave enough room between you and the car ahead of you and leave extra time to reach your destination – roads will be slick! ''
