A 22-year-old Cheyenne woman is facing a felony charge after she was reportedly caught taking methamphetamine into jail.

Warrant Arrest Leads to Meth, Felony Charge

According to a booking sheet, police arrested Yazmin A. Moreno at Little America Hotel and Resort at 2800 W. Lincolnway at 6:49 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11.

Police say Moreno had a warrant out of Laramie County Circuit Court for misdemeanor theft from a building, a crime punishable by up to six months in jail, up to a $750 fine, or both.

The theft is alleged to have occurred on or about Wednesday, Aug. 27.

Moreno was taken to the Laramie County Detention Center for booking and was reportedly found to have methamphetamine on her.

She was subsequently charged with taking a controlled substance into a penal institution, a felony punishable by up to three years in prison, up to a $3,000 fine, or both; and misdemeanor possession of methamphetamine, a crime punishable by up to one year in jail, up to a $1,000 fine, or both.

Initial Court Appearance

On Wednesday, Oct. 15, Moreno was seen in Circuit Court in front of Judge Antoinette Williams on the cases.

Williams appointed Moreno a public defender and her arraignment and preliminary hearing were scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 1:30 p.m.

Williams then asked for the state's position regarding bond.

"Given the fact that it's methamphetamine, that there is priors back in 2022, there's some arrests for resisting arrest, refusing to obey, public intox, driving under suspension, and there is failures to appear, the state has concern in her compliance, so the state would ask for a $3,000 cash bond," the state said.

Out on Bond

Williams set Moreno's bond at $1,500 cash or surety, which Moreno later posted.

Please remember that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
