Cheyenne Police Issue Phony Crash Scam Warning
The Cheyenne Police Department is warning people about a phone scam that has been widely reported in the area recently.
According to a release by the department, the scam features someone claiming to be an emergency responder calling people up and saying a family member of the intended victim has been in a crash.
The caller tries to get personal information which is supposedly needed by the hospital.
When the victim refuses to provide the information, someone else gets on the phone and threatens to kill the family member. the release says no one from a hospital or ambulance will call you asking for personal information.
Anyone who gets such a call should hang up immediately and report the call to police, according to the release. The Cheyenne Police Department phone number is 637-6500.
