Cheyenne police are investigating after a small, homemade explosive device exploded in a downtown alley this (Monday) morning.

Officer Kevin Malatesta says police were called to a report of a loud noise in the alley just north of W. 17th Street between Pioneer Avenue and Carey Avenue around 10 a.m.

"When officers responded there was nobody in the alley and they did find a small, homemade explosive device," said Malatesta. "It was similar to a pipe bomb."

Malatesta says nobody was injured and no property was damaged in the blast.

"It didn't cause any significant damage or anything," he said. "CTC (Cheyenne Transitional Center) is right next to that. They just evacuated their building as a safety precaution and once it was all clear they opened it back up again."

Police have released surveillance video of a person of interest who was seen in the area right around the time of the explosion.

Anyone with information or who recognizes the individual is asked to call police at (307) 637-6525.
