Cheyenne Police Arrest Man Following Thursday High-Speed Chase
A 32-year-old Cheyenne man is behind bars following a high-speed chase through east Cheyenne on Thursday afternoon, according to a news release from the Cheyenne Police Department.
Incident Starts With Car Left Running At Burger King
According to the release, police were called to a report of a stolen vehicle at about 12:57 p.m. at Burger King located at 2345 East Lincolnway. Police say the victim had left his car running with the key in the ignition as he went inside to pick up an order.
While the motorist was inside a man got into the car and drove away.
At around 1:30 p.m. a police officer spotted the stolen vehicle near the intersection of East 5th Street and Morrie Avenue. According to the release ''He attempted to make a traffic stop but the driver, later identified as Tony Brown, 32, of Cheyenne, refused to yield and accelerated to a high rate of speed. As the officer followed, Brown proceeded to drive recklessly, at times changing lanes without signaling and running red lights.''
The chase ended when the stolen vehicle hit a curb and got a flat tire.Brown got out of the car and tried to run away, but was soon captured by police.
Brown was booked into the Laramie County Jail on the following charges:
• Motor vehicle theft
• Fleeing/eluding
• Reckless driving
• Possession of methamphetamine
• Running a red light
• Failure to maintain lane
• Interference with a peace officer
• Speeding over the posted limit
• Driving without a license
