A 36-year-old Cheyenne man is in the hospital after getting into a fight with police who were responding to a domestic disturbance at his home.

Officer Kevin Malatesta says police were called to Michael Abrams' apartment at 5826 Eastland Ct. #B around 11:45 p.m. Thursday after several neighbors reported a fight taking place there.

"Officers contacted Abrams inside the apartment and he attempted to block officers from entering a bedroom to speak with the victim and assess her safety," said Malatesta.

"Abrams instigated a physical altercation with the officers, resulting in two officers attempting to restrain him with their tasers," he added.  "Despite the two taser deployments, Abrams continued to resist and fight with officers."

Malatesta says officers tried to use holds and physical strikes against Abrams, and finally had to use their batons to subdue him.

Abrams was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, where he remains hospitalized.  The officers involved were not injured.

The incident remains under investigation.
