Cheyenne Man Arrested After Standoff With Police
A 27-year-old Cheyenne man is behind bars after police say he broke into an apartment and barricaded himself inside.
Officer Kevin Malatesta says police were called around 6:15 a.m. Saturday about a man, later identified as Eugene Banks, pounding on the door of an apartment in the 1600 block of E. Lincolnway.
"When we arrived Banks ran past the tenant and ran to a back bedroom where he tried to hide from officers," said Malatesta. "He locked the door behind him and told officers that he was armed."
Malatesta says officers negotiated with Banks for about 30 minutes before he surrendered.
"He had a replica pistol with him and no actual firearm fortunately," said Malateta. "Nobody was injured during the incident."
Banks, who made his initial court appearance this (Monday) morning, is charged with interference with a peace officer and criminal entry. He's currently being held on a $1,000 cash bond.
