A 20-year-old Cheyenne man is facing charges after leading police on a 30-minute chase late yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon.

Officer Kevin Malatesta says it all started around 4 p.m. when officers tried to stop Trevor Bertella, a suspect in a domestic battery which had taken place in Cheyenne earlier in the day.

"Officers were out looking for him and saw him driving around the 2000 block of Dell Range," said Malatesta. "They attempted to stop him and he led the officers on a pursuit."

"Initially they went out east of town and kind of were making some loops on U.S. 30 and some county roads out that way before then getting on the interstate and then heading on back in to town," he added.

Malatesta says officers tried to spike Bertella's tires, but weren't able to. The chase finally ended when Bertella crashed into another vehicle at E. 11th Street and Converse Avenue.

"Fortunately, there weren't any serious injuries in that crash, but it was enough to get the vehicle stopped," said Malatesta.

Bertella was arrested for the domestic battery incident as well as eluding, but has yet to be formally charged.
