Cheyenne Man Arrested After Attempted Gas Station Robbery
A 29-year-old Cheyenne man is in custody after allegedly attempting to rob a gas station at gunpoint this (Tuesday) morning.
Cheyenne Police Department spokesman Officer Kevin Malatesta says officers were called to an armed robbery at USA Gasoline at 3363 E. Pershing Boulevard around 8 a.m.
"Officers determined that Derrick Dicks entered the business, displayed a handgun and asked for money," said Malatesta. "Dicks was unsuccessful in obtaining cash and left on foot."
Malatesta says officers tracked footprints in the snow from the scene of the robbery to a nearby apartment where Dicks was located.
"Officers stayed at that location watching the apartment complex until a search warrant could be obtained," said Malatesta.
"Just as the SWAT team was being deployed to help serve that search warrant, (Dicks) actually came outside and was contacted by officers who were able to apprehend him," he added.
Dicks is being held in the Laramie County jail pending formal charges.
