A person was taken to the hospital after being rescued from a burning building in Cheyenne early Monday morning, Cheyenne Fire Rescue says.

Deputy Chief Andrew Dykshorn says firefighters were called to the scene in the 3500 block of Dell Range Boulevard at 2:17 a.m. and arrived four minutes later to find the front of the building, a vacant commercial property, on fire.

"Due to previous fires and known risks in the building, an initial defensive position was taken, and suppression efforts were immediately successful," Dykshorn said in a press release Thursday afternoon.

"At that time, the building was better accessed, and conditions allowed firefighters to conduct a search of the building," Dykshorn added.

Dykshorn says a person was located inside and they were removed from the building and ultimately taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.

"The medical status of the victim is not available for comment at this time," he said.

"The responding units acted quickly and efficiently as a team and created an opportunity to use their skills to aid a trapped and incapacitated individual," said Battalion Chief Kevin Hunt.

"I'm proud to see all their hard work and training culminated with the saving of one of our community members,” Hunt added.

"Our personnel’s quick actions resulted in a life being spared from the consequences of fire," Chief John Kopper said.

"We are extremely proud of the service and dedication of our firefighters, and they definitely arose to the occasion when a life was on the line," Kopper added.

Dykshorn says the cause and origin of the fire are still under investigation.
