A Winter Storm Watch for parts of southeast Wyoming, including Cheyenne, has now been expanded into the Nebraska Panhandle.

As of 8 am Laramie was barely outside of the watch area, but still had snow in the forecast.

The watch was set to take effect at 5 p.m. today [February 9], and potentially be upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning at some point.

The agency posted the following on its website:

A tricky weather forecast with this next storm system. Heavy snow is possible tonight through Saturday in the watched area. We expanded the watch to include Banner, Cheyenne and Morrill Counties in the Nebraska Panhandle. Due to inconsistent model guidance run to run consistency, we've held off on upgrading to a warning for now to let our day crew take one more look at the next model run. Looking at snow amounts of 4-8 inches for communities in the watched areas. Lesser amounts (1-3 inches) further north and west of these watched areas. Stay tuned!
