Work on the Converse/19th Street/Pershing Roundabout Project is scheduled to get underway on Monday, April 15th according to acting City Engineer Nathan Beauheim.

He says Pershing will be closed from in front of the Cole Shopping Center to Carbon Avenue, so motorists who normally travel that route will need to make alternative plans. He says a detour on Pershing will take motorists all the way to Logan Avenue.

Beauheim says Converse will also close on Monday between Pershing and the entrance to the Veteran's Administration. Beauheim says city officials are recommending  those who normally travel that part of Converse consider taking Windmill, Ridge or College Drive instead. He says another alternative is to take the Airport Parkway where it intersects with Converse and travel west to the intersection of Pershing and Morrie.

City officials say they expect to conclude most of the major roundabout work by mid-November, although some landscaping and similar work may not be concluded until the springs of 2014. Officials say the $4.5 million project will reduce traffic congestion and improve safety for up to 41,000 motorists a day.
