A spokesman for the Cheyenne Police Department says there have been 40 reported car accidents on the Converse/Pershing/19th Street Roundabout so far this year.

Officer Dan Long says the good news is that none of those have involved serious injuries, and the majority were "fender benders" causing less than $1,000 in damage. He says that's an improvement over the intersection which was previously located there in terms of accident severity.

Official statistics show there had been a higher percentage of serious collisions involving extensive car damage and/or physical injuries when the intersection was located there. That's because the intersection tended to have a lot of "t-bone" accidents at higher speeds.

Because roundabout traffic has slower speeds and different angles, the accidents so far have been less serious.
