CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Officials say a federal Department of Veterans Affairs hospital in Wyoming is set to ban smoking on its property.

The Wyoming Tribune-Eagle reports the Cheyenne Veterans Affairs Medical Center is scheduled to ban smoking beginning Tuesday.

The facility's associate director says the change brings it in line with the policies of other VA medical centers and clinics.

The Cheyenne facility is one of about 140 VA centers nationwide instituting the ban.

The official says some veterans and employees are not happy about the ban and administrators are trying to accommodate them.

The center plans to offer smoking cessation options including nicotine replacement patches and over-the-counter medication.

A facility nurse who works on employee health says workers trying to quit can take a free class to assist them.
