A Camper Hauling Suspect Hit 97 Mph Before Hiding In Wyoming Shrubs
The Wyoming Highway Patrol has designated a motorist who led troopers on a chase at speeds approaching 100 miles per hour while pulling a full-size camper as this week's "Speeder Of The Week."
That's according to a post on the patrol Facebook page.
Patrol Spokesman Officer Aaron Brown says the incident started shortly before 10:30 p.m. on July 2, when the driver of a Chevy 2500 Duramax led troopers from Troop J in Laramie on a chase on Interstate 80, officially clocked at 97 miles per hour in a 75 mph zone.
Chase Continues Into Laramie County
The suspect then crossed into Laramie County, and in the words of the post "decided they wanted to explore some backroads, exiting at Buford and continued down County Road 210. This excursion apparently wasn't doing the trick, so - after two good spikes from troopers on Happy Jack Road - the suspect headed for Curt Gowdy."

The post says that the vehicle, which by this point had ''no rear tires to speak of," finally came to a stop on Granite Springs Road. The driver then took off on foot. Troopers from Cheyenne found the driver hiding in some shrubbery near Granite Reservoir. The patrol says that even after being handcuffed, the suspect kicked one of the troopers before being tackled and arrested.
According to the patrol, the driver now faces multiple charges - including DUI, Fleeing and Eluding, Reckless Driving, Failing to Stop at a Stop Sign, Speeding, Following Too Close and Lane use. Other charges are pending.
The patrol is not releasing the name of the motorist.
