To tie the event back to the community and further distinguish it from National Night Out, the Cheyenne Police Department has changed the name of its annual Neighborhood Night Out to Cheyenne Neighborhood Night.

"Even though we’ve rebranded the name this year, it’s still the same event everyone knows and loves," said Chief Mark Francisco.

Police Gearing Up for 15th Annual Cheyenne Neighborhood Night

Now in its 15th year, the community-building event is designed to bring neighbors, businesses, and police together in partnership against crime in Cheyenne.

"Our agency believes in community policing, and this is an opportunity to come together and build relationships that make our city stronger," said Francisco.

Block Captain Meeting Coming Up Soon

This year's event will take place on Thursday, July 11, and those interested in hosting block parties are encouraged to attend a block captain planning meeting at the Cheyenne Public Safety Center at 415 W. 18th St. on Thursday, May 30, at 5:30 p.m.

"The meeting will be informational and feature an open discussion for sharing block party planning ideas," said Public Information Officer Alex Farkas.

"Whether you have hosted a block party in the past or are interested in hosting a party this year, this is your opportunity to begin the process and plan a special event for your neighborhood," she added.

Each year, neighborhood block captains organize block parties featuring cookouts, live music, and entertainment provided by neighborhood residents with the help of sponsoring Cheyenne businesses, churches, and specialty groups.

Last year, there were 25 block parties held throughout the capital city, and Farkas says they are hoping to have as many as possible this year.

"Many times, our community members only meet law enforcement when a crime occurs, but during this event, we are able to talk with residents, hear their public safety questions, and build relationships under positive circumstances," said Francisco.

If you would like to RSVP as a block captain, you can contact Farkas at 307-637-6537 or afarkas@cheyennepd.org.

Meet the Four-Legged Heroes of the Cheyenne Police Department

They may not be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, but make no bones about it, police dogs play a vital role in the fight against crime.

In many situations, they're the first ones to put their lives on the line to protect their human partners, proving that not all heroes wear capes, some wear fur coats.
