The Cheyenne office of the National Weather Service is warning about possible flash flooding in the area devastated by the Badger Creek Fire in southeast Wyoming.

The service issued the following statement on Thursday morning:

"Showers and thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening over portions of the Badger Creek Burn Scar. The reduced vegetation cover and localized heavy rainfall could lead to localized flash flooding within the burn scar or the surrounding drainages. Be on the lookout for thunderstorms in the area as even just a quarter inch of rain in 15 to 20 minutes could cause debris flows or flash flooding. Storms will be most likely from 1 pm to 10 pm and tapering off after then."
