Weather Forecasters Predicting Cheyenne Arctic Front
The National Weather Service says the first wave of a strong arctic front will begin to arrive in southeast Wyoming this (Sunday) evening.
Rob Cox with the agency's Cheyenne office says the front will initially bring some moderate snowfall of about 1-3 inches, mostly from northwest of Cheyenne to Alliance, Nebraska.
While tonight's temperatures will drop only into the 20's, that will change on Monday. Highs Monday are only forecast into the 20's, with windchill's reaching the -15 to -25 range by Monday night.
The bitterly cold weather is expected to continue through Tuesday, with high temperatures in the single digits to low teens and overnight lows between zero and -10. Windchills could again sink to as low as -25 across the region through Wednesday night, with possible slick, showy roads and cold temperatures expected through Wednesday night and into Thursday.
Cox is warning people about the danger of frost bite and hypothermia, and says people should make sure they have appropriate shelter to survive the extreme cold.
Pets could also be at risk, especially during the overnight hours.
