A turbine fire at a newly constructed wind facility at the Belvoir Ranch west of Cheyenne burned for about two hours Saturday morning before going out on its own.

That's according to Paul Pomeroy Fire Chief for Laramie County Fire District #10, which was called to the blaze at the Roundhouse Industrial Wind Facility at around 9 a.m.

Pomeroy told Townsquare Media of Cheyenne that the fire caused little damage, although he said if it had happened in the summer it potentially could have caused a grass fire.

But because of the wet, snowy ground this time of year, the blaze essentially burned itself out. Pomeroy said turbine fires of this sort generally do burn themselves out unless they somehow spread to flammable material, such as dry grass.

No injuries were reported from the turbine fire.
